I have to admit - I judged this book by its cover - brightly coloured art and not shockingly a beaming celebrity chef. Leon approaches food differently. The book starts with a handy ingredients guide - you learn how to make the best choices when it comes to your ingredients, as well as including a seasonal eating chart so your food isn't flying 2000 miles to reach your plate. The recipes that follow are easy (not beginners but not into Blumenthal territory either) and very very tasty. It's probably my favourite cookery book ever produced. Oh, and it looks very nice on my shelf as well.

Being a complete newby to the world and ethos of Leon, i was intrigued by this colourful cookery book when it arrived in our store. I am now a happy owner of said colourful cookery book and i love it deeply. More than once i have fallen asleep with it dreaming of recipes and exciting ingredients. The Leon ethos/goal is a simple one, fresh and healthy food fast, and they have quickly reached this goal in leaps (or should that be neeps) and bounds. There are now nine restaurants in London with another one about to open in Bristol. This part scrapbook part recipe book will give you a fabulous start into the edible world of Leon. The first half of this book is an introduction into the favourite and most used ingredients at Leon. Allegra's writing is light hearted and often makes me laugh out loud, while reading why figs might be good for you, for example. The second half is packed full of delicious and diverse looking recipes that follow in the simple and fast yet fresh and healthy aim that their restaurants are based upon. They even give you a pull out chart so you can be aware of whats available when and stickers so you can brand up your own kitchen!

Leon by Allegra McEvedy This is a recipe and ingredients book in one that will look great on every kitchen shelf. A fab gift for lovers of healthy and exciting food. It's the most original cookbook around with pockets and cutaways in amongst the colourful collages, which mirror the decor in the Leon Restaurants. One of the recipes (Ben's Hand-me-down Sausage & Bean Pot Pie, pg 214)hails from Ilkeston- something local we can be proud of! Allegra McEvedy is a genius, I love this book!
