A rollercoaster of a read!
04 September 2012
This book is a real rollercoaster of a read that grabbed me from the first page. Despite really enjoying the book I did find it quite hard to read in some places because some of the experiences Belle goes through are really horrific and definitely not for the fainthearted. So much happens to Belle throughout the book that just when you start to think things are going ok for her something happens to shake her up again! The world Lesley Pearse creates is so vivid that I found myself completely immersed in Belle's world. 'Belle' is a really emotional and gripping read with fabulous characters who will stay with you long after you have finished reading it.

This book would make a brilliant TV series, although it would be hard to wait for the next episode each week. A book that totally captures you into the world of Belle, a courageous and lovely character. Romantic and exciting with every page keeping your interest to the max. Loved it.

An excellent book
03 December 2011
Belle, a 15 year old girl, grew up in a brothel. Her mother, the owner, took care that she did not get in contact with daily business. Belle’s life changed dramatically after she witnessed the murder of one prostitute, was abducted, raped and forced into prostitution.
Before I bought “Belle” I read a couple of books dealing with prostitution and expected a comparable story. What I found was a real surprise. Lesley Pearse wrote a brilliant book about a charming young woman struggling to survive in a brutal and inhuman world. Her intelligence and self-confidence made impossible things possible. Well, it was no surprise that there was a happy end but after so much suffering and humiliation I was in need of such a solution.
Lesley, in the near future another of your books will be on my shopping list.

I have read all Lesley Pearce books - all absorbing and well written, but this one was superb at the descriiptions of the intimate scenes - brought me right into the story. I found it very difficult to put this one down - and certainly didnt want to finish it.

A fantastic story full of sorrow in 1910
12 September 2011
Belle is Lesley Pearse’s latest book set in 1910 in the East end of London. Right from the very beginning you are introduced to the main character Belle, who is a 15-year-old girl full of innocence despite living in the ground floors of her Mothers Brothel. Belle has no concept of what happens upstairs until one day she see something that changes her life for ever.
Belle’s whole world changes because of this one night. Snatched from the streets near her house and transported against her will into a very sinister world where she has no control of her own fate. Only things she knows is that she must try to get back home and what ever cost. Along the way she meets many people, some good, some very surprising and some so nasty that you never see it coming.
This book blew me away. I read it cover to cover, nearly 600 pages in one weekend. Lesley has an amazing ability to write about a subject that is so shocking that really you should put the book down yet you are so desperate to see Belle survive and have faith that something good will happen next (which isn’t always the case!). A rollercoaster of emotions.
I was delighted to hear that this is not the end of the Belle saga. Belle’s War will be a follow-up (I believe next year). I have my own hopes for Belle but I know for certain what ever happens to her next I won’t be expecting it.
One of my top reads in 2011 Fantastic book Lesley – Thank you!

Compelling read
03 September 2011
My first read of the author Lesley Pearse and most delightful it was too. I've read that this author's novels differ in style greatly - this latest one was moving, touching and emotional as well as being a little bit of a who-done-it which leads into a chase to rescue Belle before it's too late.
Set in 1910 in a poor part of London the plot moves to France and then New York and onto New Orleans. Every place mentioned was so well described, I became immersed in both time and place.
The characterisations were beautifully portrayed - both the good ones and the bad. It was so easy to become enthraled in the plot which was so well executed.
An all round great read.

Bella is a good book, slightly different from previous books from Lesley Pearse. I could not put the book down and looking for the next Bella sequel. In fact I have already pass this book on the a very good friend of mind and recommended Waterstones for future books by Lesley Pearse.
