This book is so hard to put down. The author writes poetically and you can tell a lot of thought went into each character. The Professor is a hotheaded mess but he is also lovely. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a book to get lost in and the icing on the cake is the sequel is scheduled to be out in possibly just a few weeks.

A Must Read!
11 April 2012
I first became aware of "Gabriel's Inferno" through enthusiastic word of mouth online, knowing little about the story or its author. I decided to give it a try, settling in for an afternoon of reading. And then I quickly found myself absorbed in the world of Prof. Gabriel Emerson. I followed with rapt attention as he struggled to reconcile his troubled past with his hopes for the future.
Set in contemporary times at the University of Toronto, the author seamlessly incorporates aspects of Dante's, The Divine Comedy, into this modern day love story. In doing so, Reynard not only educates but challenges the reader to embrace the classical tale in a new age.
Every time I pick up a book, I am hoping to find that rare combination of strong plot, excellent narrative, perfectly crafted characters and an exposure to a wide range of emotional exploration and, more often than not, stories come up lacking in one or more of these areas.
So there is nothing more gratifying and exciting than the moment I know I have found something special, something that transcends the normal reading experience.
"Gabriel's Inferno" is one of those rare gems and will hold a special place on my favorite bookshelf for many, many years to come.

This is one of those rare books that you stumble upon unaware of how it will change your life. There is a lyrical beauty to the profound themes of redemption, hope and unconditional love which are played out in the all too human romance of Gabriel and Julia, two lovely, but bruised almost lovers who find out that one can find God's forgiving love in the people He places deeply into your life.
Enjoy this book as it washes over you, because at some point in the storyline, you will see your own fears and sorrows represented, and realize that we are all (wondrously and amazingly) allowed to be loved for who we are despite our failures. Failures do not define us, grace does.
Sylvain Reynard gives the reader a masterful and poignant example of love which reaches back into history to Dante's tale, and forward in time eternally. I look forward to many more books from this author as he beautifully explores the human condition, and divine grace. What a sublime book from this first time author
